We believe that creating opportunities for students is critical to our ongoing ability to remain globally competitive - that's why we offer a significant number of competitive scholarships to the best and brightest.

Our graduates are experts in their chosen fields, working in leading universities and research institutes in Australia as well as overseas.

We're partnering with the Defence Science and Technology Group (DST Group) to collaborate and co-sponsor PhD research in cyber and cyber security topics relevant to Defence and the Australian community. DST has major research facilities in Melbourne and South Australia, and smaller facilities in other States and Territories throughout Australia.

We provide a world-class research environment to work alongside Australia's leading data scientists.

Our candidates are the next generation of data research leaders.  We are seeking inventive and innovative scholars with a passion for ICT research who are looking to combine new technologies, new ways of thinking with a focus on project delivery.

Applicants may be Australian or international students.  They must have already applied for, or have already commenced a PhD research program at one of our participating universities.

Candidates must have completed (or be currently completing) an Australian Bachelor degree with First Class Honours or hold a degree with an equivalent grade. Proposed research projects must align with Data61’s research areas.

Duration and Level of Award

Data61 offers full and top-up scholarships for up to a period of 3.5 years. The Data61 PhD Scholarship provides a full stipend at the same rate as the Australian Postgraduate Award. A top-up scholarship is also available at a rate of $10,000 per annum.

Successful candidates can also apply for support for conference registration and travel funds. They may also undertake an overseas internship during the candidature term.
